A groundbreaking study published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, funded by ICMR and the Health Ministry, has unveiled startling figures that surpass previous estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO). The study reveals that a staggering 101 million individuals in India, equivalent to 11.4% of the population, are grappling with diabetes, while an additional 136 million are on the verge of developing the metabolic disorder due to prediabetes. These numbers also shed light on state-specific data concerning diabetes and other non-communicable diseases like high blood pressure and cholesterol. With these concerning findings, we must ask ourselves: Are we adequately prepared to tackle this growing health challenge?
